Have you heard of the International Rescue Committee? It was founded by Albert Einstein in 1933. My first experience with the IRC was 10 years ago. I was part of a group of moms who supported a refugee family who was resettling in the United States. We organized a collection of furnishings and linens and set up an apartment for the refugee family who was relocating to our city.
The IRC stands out because they not only provide safety and support, but they also offer education which fosters independence. The IRC has an incredible employment program by which 84% of resettled refugees are economically self-sufficient within 180 days. When someone can provide for their family while feeling safe, it is empowering.
In 2022, the IRC assisted 32.9 million people. Their humanitarian efforts across the world are far-reaching. In addition, they directly support and educate women, which enables opportunities and allows women to understand their rights.
